Each of the participants in the 2nd year anniversary weekend have now received their participation certificates.
Here are some results from the activation weekend for the 2nd year anniversary of the VK5 National & Conservation Parks Award, sponsored by the Adelaide Hills Amateur Radio Society.
The weekend was held on Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th March 2015. There were a total of 111 park activations, and of those 81 were unique parks (in other words different parks). South Australia was well represented with parks being activated in the Far North, the South East, the Riverland, the Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, the Adelaide metropolitan area, and the Yorke Peninsula. A total of 41 amateurs took part as activators (a number were AHARS members). Below is a list of those who headed out into the field:-
I would like to thank all the amateurs who took part in the weekend, both park activators and park hunters. A special thanks to Tony VK3VTH/5 and Tim VK3MTB/5 who crossed the border to activate South Australian parks. It was very pleasing to hear a number of first time park activators including Greg VK5GJ and Norm VK5GI, who activated parks on the Fleurieu Peninsula, and Roy VK5NRG who ventured out with David VK5KC. Congratulations also to the five Foundation operators who took part as activators. At this stage there are 7 VK5 Park activators heading out to activate parks all across South Australia.

Activity will be on all the HF bands, but mostly 40m & 20m. Times - from around 0600 UTC. This coming Friday, 16th January, 2015, a twilight activation afternoon/evening is going to be held. At this stage the following parks will be activated.....
Activators should be on air from around 3.30 p.m. onwards. If you hear an activator out and about in a park, please give them a call. The 2nd year anniversary activation weekend will be held on.....

Activations will be conducted at Mount Lofty summit within the Cleland Conservation Park, and also at the Belair National Park.
On Sunday 9th March, 2014, there will be a VK5 SOTA & Parks symposium, held at the Guides Hall/AHARS Shack at Blackwood. There will be a variety of guest speakers. A reminder that the VK5 Parks Award, celebrates its 1st birthday in April this year.
A special activation weekend to celebrate the anniversary will be held on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April, 2014. If you do intend to activate a park, please advise Paul, VK5PAS, so he can add your intended activation to the Master list, which can be found in the files section on the VK5 Parks Yahoo group. |
